This year marks the 20th anniversary of Arts Society King’s, Studio Tour King.

“Arts Society King is very excited to be celebrating 20 years advocating for arts and culture in King Township,” said Michele McNally, president of Arts Society King.

“It all started in 2005 with an idea that Judy Craig had to promote the arts. Keen volunteers were gathered and they began a summer arts festival called Arts Festival King which had Heritage Tours, Music at the Museum, Mayor’s Cultural Soiree, Christmas in July Craft Show, Creative Endeavours Workshops, and much more including Studio Tour King. Today ASK still hosts musical evenings, art shows, workshops and soirees and we hope to do so for 20 more years.”

Twenty local artists participated in the original Studio Tour King including internationally renowned King artists Ernestine Tahedl and the late Helen Lucas.

This year’s Studio Tour King has grown to include 45 artists – local and beyond. Their disciplines while including paintings of oil, acrylic, watercolour, pastel, ink, charcoal, encaustic and mixed media, also showcase artists who create ceramics, fibre and textile art, glasswork, jewelry, printmaking and woodwork. Forty of these artists can be found in six public venues and five in their home studios throughout King Township.

On April 5 and 6 visit both floors of the Schomberg Community Hall, the King Heritage & Cultural Centre including the School Room, Gift Shop, East Gallery and Laskay Hall, as well as the King City Senior’s Centre. Four of our home studio artists can be found in the heart of King City while the fifth is located in ‘prime King’.

Arts Society King (ASK) is a not-for-profit, volunteer run organization whose mission has always been to promote, support, celebrate and advocate for arts and culture in King Township.

“As a returning artist in STK2025, I am excited to be participating in this milestone event,” said Patricia Earl, co-chair of Arts Society King.

“Forty-five local artists are participating this year, which is testament to the reputation that Arts Society King has developed over the past 20 years. Our visitor base now reaches well beyond King Township and York Region,” Earl said.

“We are very grateful that King Township supports our local arts community, as ASK (Arts Society King) showcases the talent of so many gifted artists, representing work in many different mediums.”

“I feel very fortunate that I am able to show and sell what I am very passionate about right in our community, my art.”

Studio Tour King is a free event showcasing artists working in numerous mediums from fibre and textile art, glasswork to printmaking, woodworking, mixed media and painting.
